5’7 and Under Disaster Casting of America’s Next Top Model

5’7 and Under Disaster Casting of America’s Next Top Model

Brittany Johnson, a 5’2 amateur print model audition for America’s Next Top model Cycle 13 this past Saturday March 7 at Renaissance Hotel located on M Street and New Hampshire Avenue in Washington D.C. She’s a part time model and a full time freshman at University of Maryland. Johnson say’s she has a passion for modeling since she was a little girl but because of her height she never further it but luckily Cycle 13 of America’s Next Top Model was 5’7 and under can be her big break. Yes! 5’7 and under was the criteria the casting directors were looking for someone short and petite. Johnson says “It was a shocker they usually cast girls that nearly 6 ft.” Since Johnson fit this year description she was eager and proud of her height.

Johnson started her day at 6:00AM with a wake up call with her rooster alarm clock waking her up exactly at 6:00 AM. The young teen was extremely excited because she recently turned 18 last week, the age requirements for the show is between 18-27 to audition. Getting ready was a nerve wreck for the teen she didn’t know what she wanted to wear even though she and her mother picked out her outfit a week ago, she wasn’t satisfied. After taking a hour to find a nice outfit for the audition she ended up wearing a white tank top, blue skinny jeans and white 3 inch heels making her look taller than her regular height.

Johnson arrived at 8:00A.M. Assuming it was a good timing since the casting didn’t start until 10:00am. Once she pulled up in front of the Hotel she thought it was homeless people lying outside of the hotel but little did she know it was her competition, Glamour girls from Virginia, D.C., Philadelphia and Maryland. Girls were sleeping outside of the hotel since 5 in the morning. “I couldn’t believe that the girl in font of the line slept outside since 5am, I was still asleep, says Johnson.”

Standing in a four hour line Johnson says she seen all types of nationalities “Black, Whites, Hispanics, Africans, Ethiopians, Germans heritage, Russians heritage, you name it they was there. The girl behind Johnson brought a picnic basket, portable DVD with all of the season of America’s Next Top Model previous season which was entertaining, say Johnson.”

Around 1PM Johnson finally got into the building, that when her heart began to beat faster she became overwhelmed by the fact she was a few steps closer to her dream. Johnson walked down 2 flights of stairs and arrive in a room where she and the girls behind her thought was the casting room, unfortunately it wasn’t. It was another room full of hundreds of girls sitting in chairs chorological holding there auditions numbers waiting to be seen. Johnson was number 523 out of over 800 girls totaled auditioned.

As she patiently waited for an hour in that room with hundreds of girls the America’s Next Top Model Crew called 40 girls in her row. “I thought I was going to get a one on one experience with the casting director it wasn’t like that at all, Says Johnson.” When she entered the room with at least 40 girls where they all had to line up heel to heel. Johnson says she was so close to the girl in front of her she didn’t understand how they could see them one by one. The girls were told once they got the microphone from a girl in front of them to pass the microphone around the entire room. Once you got the Microphone you were required to say your name, height, weight, age and they will determine if they want to keep you inside for further questioning. When the Microphone was given to Johnson she described the feeling as being so nervous that you lose your train of thought but fortunately she didn’t and read what they told her to say. The casting call director Michelle Mock called her number, she was thrilled. Out of forty girls ten stayed in the room, Johnson was excited that she was of them.

Michelle Mock the casting director told all of the girls to lift their shirt up and pose in the camera then she said “if we need you we’ll call you, thank you.” After waiting for five hours Johnson was disappoint she felt like she could of stayed home rather than wait for many hours just to lift her shirt up for the casting director. Johnson says “I felt like it was inappropriate and I know modeling is about being comfortable in your skin but I didn’t get to do a runway walk or anything.” “Next Year I am going to send in a video tape showing my personality rather than going to auditions with hundreds of girls, I personally wouldn’t recommend anyone to go to America’s Next Top Model Casting Call again.”

I can verify that this information is at America’s Next Top Model casting this past Saturday.
